June not only marks the arrival of the monsoon in India, but it also brings happiness among the Indian cricket fans as the month is filled with tons of happy memories. The Indian team has won three ICC trophies in the month of June, covering three of the seven ICC titles they have won till now.
The first and also the most famous win by India in the month of June came in 1983, when the Kapil Dev-led Indian side won the ICC World Cup, defeating West Indies in the final match. Although the hopes were less for the team to win, Dev showcased his talent as a captain, allowing India to win its first ICC title.

Next in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, India secured another title win, that too in the month of June, which came against England. MS Dhoni-led Indian side won its second ICC title in the month of June, and also the third ICC final win under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The third and final ICC tournament win came in June 2024, when India finally ended its 11-year ICC trophy drought. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team won the T20 World Cup played in the West Indies and the USA. Let’s now take a look at all the tournaments won by the Indian team in the month of June.
The 1983 World Cup has been historical for the Indian team in not just one but many ways. Team India won its first-ever ICC title this year, being led by the legendary captain, Kapil Dev. India started off their campaign against the defending champions, West Indies.

In its first match, India was able to defeat the West Indies with ease, starting off the World Cup campaign with a 34-run win. Batting first, India posted a total of 262 for the loss of 8 wickets, with the help of Yashpal Sharma, who scored 89 runs. West Indies were bowled out for just 228, with Binny and Shastri taking 3 wickets each.
India went on to win its second match of the tournament against Zimbabwe, winning the game by 5 wickets, chasing the target of 156. Madan Lal received the POTM award in this match for his crucial spell of 3/27. But just after two consecutive wins, India suffered a brutal loss against Australia, as the team got all out at 158 while chasing the total of 320.
This was followed by yet another loss for the Indian team, as they faced the West Indies in the 14th match of the tournament. Viv Richards scored a century in this match, which powered West Indies to defeat India by 66 runs.
The team went on to snap a crucial comeback, as they first went on to defeat Zimbabwe by 31 runs and ended the campaign with yet another win over Australia by 118 runs. With these two consecutive wins, India was finally able to propel itself to the playoffs.
India went on to face England in the semi-final match, and it was surely expected to be a thriller as England were the hosts of the tournament. Batting first, England was just able to score 213 runs, as India bowled them out. Chasing the target, India was able to win with ease, as Yashpal and Sandeep smashed half-centuries.
Then came the ultimate final clash at the Lord’s, where India went against the West Indies for the third time in the tournament. West Indies, the defending champions, decided that they would bowl first in this crucial game, and bowled out India for just 183 runs. Everyone thought the West Indies would be able to chase it down easily, but India bowled them out for 140, winning the World Cup final by 43 runs.
The next time the month of June turned out to be lucky for the Indian fans was during the 2013 Champions Trophy. With Captain Cool, India had already won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and the ICC World Cup 2011. But now it was time for him to add another trophy to his cabinet as a captain.

India started off their first match against South Africa with a win by 26 runs. Batting first, they set a target of 332, which the Proteas failed to chase down by 26 runs. India’s bowling line-up was able to equally contribute to the wickets.
In its next match, India went against the West Indies. With Jadeja’s fifer, the West Indies were able to score just 233 runs. India chased down the target with 8 wickets remaining. India’s final group stage match was against Pakistan, where the team also came out victorious by 8 wickets.
Winning all the matches, India went on to face Sri Lanka in the semi-final of the tournament. Bowling first, Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets each, which restricted Sri Lanka to just 181 runs. Coming out to chase the target, India was able to complete it with 8 wickets remaining.
In the finals, India went against England, but the match was reduced to 20 overs per innings due to rain. India scored 129 runs for the loss of 7 wickets, with Kohli being the top scorer with 43. England fell short by just 5 runs to chase down the target, allowing India to secure a massive win.
India’s recent win in June came under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, when the team lifted the T20 World Cup title. India started off their campaign with a massive win against Ireland, winning the match by 8 wickets and 46 balls remaining.

Next was the El Clasico match against Pakistan, where India got all out at 119, but still managed to win the match by 6 runs. Jasprit Bumrah showcased his brilliance, allowing India to grab the win. With the next match being against the USA, India secured yet another win by 7 wickets, as Arshdeep Singh shone with the ball.
India’s next Group match against Canada was abandoned due to the weather conditions. The team now had their spot in the Super Eights, where they defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs in the first match. In the next game, India faced Bangladesh and defeated them by a big margin of 50 runs, inching closer to the playoffs.
In the ultimate clash against Australia, India defeated them by 24 runs, which made them undefeated as they entered the playoffs. Later, the team went against England, the team against whom they lost the T20 World Cup 2022 semis. But this time India came out on top, winning the match by 68 runs.
In the final clash, it was India against South Africa at the Kensington Oval. Batting first, India went on to score a total of 176 runs, where Virat Kohli (76) and Axar Patel (47) played an important role. South Africa looked strong most of the time while chasing the target, still the team fell short by 7 runs to win the finals. In the end, it was India who won their second T20 World Cup title, and it was also their third title win in the month of June.
