After losing the second Test against Bangladesh by 101 runs, West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has called for a mindset shift within the team. The loss, which sealed a 1-0 series defeat, was marked by poor batting performances. In both innings, the West Indies struggled, posting scores of 146 and 185. In the first innings, eight batters were dismissed for single-digit scores.
Despite a half-century from Kavem Hodge and 43 runs from Brathwaite in the second innings, the team could not capitalize on these contributions. Brathwaite acknowledged the team’s lack of execution under pressure, emphasizing the need for a better mindset and more intent in future matches. He said:
Not to the level where we know it can be. They’re young guys in terms of the amount of games played. In pressure situations, it’s about executing better. Our execution as batters can be a lot better. I believe it’s something that has to be done – in terms of mindset, it should change. Have to work on as a group about having the intent in both innings. Still a lot of positives.
He praised the positive aspects, such as Greaves’ maiden hundred and the bowling attack led by Jayden Seales. Brathwaite believes the team must regroup and focus on improving in high-pressure situations to achieve better performances. The West Indies will now have time to reflect before their next series.
