In the upcoming IPL 2025 season, former Indian cricketer Tanmay Srivastava is set to make his debut as an umpire. Srivastava was a crucial member of India’s victorious 2008 U-19 World Cup team led by Virat Kohli. After retiring from professional cricket five years ago, Srivastava transitioned to umpiring and has been officiating in domestic matches. Now, he is officially added to the umpiring panel for IPL 2025.
Srivastava had a decent domestic career, scoring 1,728 runs in 44 List A matches at an impressive average of 44.3, including seven centuries. However, his IPL career was short-lived as he played for Kings XI Punjab in 2008 and 2009, scoring only eight runs in three innings. Later, he represented Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers Kerala but couldn’t leave a significant mark. His last outing as a player came in the 2022 Legends League, where he scored 81 runs in three innings.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association congratulated Srivastava, highlighting his journey from player to umpire. Interestingly, Srivastava will now officiate matches featuring his former U-19 skipper Virat Kohli, who continues to play in IPL 2025. This marks a unique reunion of sorts, with Srivastava switching roles but staying connected to the game.
