After losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia and enduring a home Test series whitewash against New Zealand, Virat Kohli’s participation in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra remains uncertain due to a neck sprain. Kohli reportedly took an injection to alleviate the injury. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is awaiting updates on his availability. While his inclusion in the squad remains “subject to availability”, he may join the team in Rajkot before the match starting January 23.
The BCCI’s recent mandate requires all centrally contracted players to participate in domestic cricket for national selection eligibility. This policy aims to strengthen the domestic cricket ecosystem, promote match fitness, and inspire younger players by ensuring the presence of international stars. Exceptions are allowed only in extraordinary circumstances with prior approval from senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar.
Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the Saurashtra game, offering a boost to Delhi’s squad. Kohli’s potential participation, alongside Pant, could enhance the team’s chances in their remaining Ranji Trophy matches.
