In the second semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2025, Vidarbha put up a strong performance on Day 1 against Mumbai, finishing at 308/5 in 88 overs after electing to bat first in Nagpur. The innings was anchored by Danish Malewar, who scored a crucial 79 off 157 balls, including seven fours and a six. Dhruv Shorey also played a significant role with 74 off 109 balls, hitting nine boundaries. Karun Nair contributed a steady 45 off 70 balls, while Yash Rathod remained unbeaten on 47 off 86 balls at the stumps.
Mumbai’s bowlers struggled to make early inroads, with only Royston Dias (1/26), Shams Mulani (2/44), and Shivam Dube (2/35) managing to take wickets. Despite a disciplined effort from the bowlers, including Shardul Thakur (0/57) and Mohit Avasthi (0/61), Vidarbha capitalized on key partnerships. The team reached 100 in 29.1 overs and 200 in 58.2 overs, showcasing patience and consistency.
The innings saw several milestones, including Shorey’s half-century in 67 balls and Malewar’s fifty in 107 deliveries. A late stand between Rathod and captain Akshay Wadkar (13* off 35) ensured a stable finish. With a solid first-day total, Vidarbha will look to build further, while Mumbai seeks early breakthroughs on Day 2.
