Varun Chakravarthy Surpasses Kuldeep Yadav to Set New Landmark for India

In the third T20I against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on January 28, Varun Chakravarthy set a new record for India, surpassing Kuldeep Yadav for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in a 10-match T20I span. Despite India’s 26-run loss, Chakravarthy’s five-wicket haul (5/24 in four overs) stood out as a remarkable achievement.

Since making his comeback in October, the Tamil Nadu spinner has been in red-hot form, taking 27 wickets in 10 T20Is at an average of 10.96 and an economy of 7.4. His tally of 27 wickets surpassed Kuldeep Yadav’s previous record of 25 wickets in the same span. Overall, Chakravarthy has 29 wickets in 16 T20Is at an average of 14.75 and an economy of 6.84.

Among Indian bowlers, only Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have also taken two five-wicket hauls in T20Is. Globally, Chakravarthy ranks third in the list of most wickets in a 10-match T20I stretch, behind Rashid Khan (30) and Syazrul Idrus (28). Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised Chakravarthy’s fearless approach, highlighting his ability to challenge batters consistently. With his current form, Chakravarthy has emerged as a key asset for India’s T20I bowling lineup.
