Chasing 305, captain Kane Williamson anchored the innings with a stellar unbeaten 133 off 113 balls, including 13 fours and two sixes. Devon Conway provided strong support with a composed 97 off 107 balls, while Glenn Phillips contributed 28* to ensure a smooth finish.
Earlier, South Africa posted a competitive 304/6, led by debutant Matthew Breetzke’s record-breaking 150 off 148 balls, the highest debut score for a South African in ODIs. Wiaan Mulder added a quick 64 off 60 balls, while Jason Smith chipped in with 41. Despite their efforts, New Zealand’s disciplined bowling, with Matt Henry (2/59) and Will O’Rourke (2/72), ensured no late acceleration.
New Zealand paced their chase well, reaching 100 in 18.2 overs and 200 in 30.1 overs. Williamson’s century came in just 72 balls, showcasing his class under pressure.
