When the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) found themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table with just two wins in eight matches, head coach Stephen Fleming called on the team to take inspiration from Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic comeback in IPL 2024. Last year, RCB had won just one of their first eight games but turned things around dramatically by winning their final six matches, finishing fourth and earning a playoff spot, sealing the run with a victory over CSK.
Fleming remains optimistic that MS Dhoni’s team can replicate that feat. With six matches remaining, CSK must win all to stand a chance at qualifying for the playoffs. Their recent form, however, has been disappointing, with a heavy nine-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians at Wankhede adding to their woes.
Ahead of their clash against SunRisers Hyderabad on April 25 at Chepauk, Fleming stressed the importance of selecting the best players while also acknowledging that the team must prepare for the possibility of elimination. He echoed Dhoni’s sentiment about using this phase for team transition, emphasizing that no match would be wasted and that such periods have previously laid the groundwork for future IPL title wins. Fleming affirmed the squad’s mindset remains focused on maximizing every remaining opportunity this season.
