After the Mumbai Indians’ mixed start to IPL 2025, team owner Nita Ambani was approached by a fan outside the Shirdi shrine, requesting the reinstatement of Rohit Sharma as captain. Smiling, Ambani responded, “Baba ki marzi”, indicating the decision lies in destiny. MI currently sits seventh on the points table, with only two wins in six matches. They began with defeats to CSK and GT, won against KKR, and then suffered back-to-back losses, including one against RCB, who won at Wankhede for the first time in 10 years.
They managed to bounce back with a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals. Rohit Sharma’s poor form has raised concerns — he has scored only 56 runs in five games at an average of 11.20, failing to cross 20 in any innings. Since 2023, his average of 24.39 is the second-lowest among openers with 25+ innings. Despite growing fan pressure, the MI management continues to support Hardik Pandya as captain. MI will next face SRH and CSK at home.
