After the 13th group-stage match of IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a crushing eight-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at home. Batting first, LSG struggled to 171 runs in 20 overs, which PBKS chased down comfortably within 17 overs.
LSG captain Rishabh Pant, who was acquired for a record ₹27 crore, failed again, scoring just 2 runs before being dismissed by Glenn Maxwell. His poor batting form, along with questionable captaincy decisions, drew heavy criticism. Following the match, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka was seen having a tense discussion with Pant at the Ekana Stadium, indicating dissatisfaction with his performance.
So far, Pant has only managed 17 runs in three innings, including a duck on debut. After this loss, LSG dropped to sixth in the IPL 2025 points table. Their next challenge will be against Mumbai Indians on April 4, where they will aim to recover from their disappointing start to the season.
