As the Los Angeles Olympics approaches, cricket is set to make its return to the Games for the first time since 1900. The LA28 Organizing Committee has announced that the sport will be played at a temporary stadium built at the Fairgrounds in Pomona, Southern California. This move follows the model used during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where a temporary venue in New York hosted several matches before being dismantled.
The cricket competition at the LA28 Olympics will feature six teams each in both the men’s and women’s categories, with a total of 90 athletes—15 players per squad. The ICC sees this as a crucial step in expanding cricket’s global appeal, particularly in the U.S. market, which gained momentum after co-hosting the T20 World Cup.
The unveiling of the Olympic cricket venue was made more attention-grabbing by the use of Virat Kohli’s image, underscoring the sport’s star power and its growing global relevance. The Games will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028.
