When the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their 13-member squad on May 2 for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, the return of captain Ben Stokes stood out. Stokes, who had been sidelined since December 2024 due to a torn left hamstring, will lead England at Trent Bridge starting May 22. This marks Zimbabwe’s first Test on English soil since 2003 and launches England’s international summer.
The ECB handed Test debuts to Essex pair Sam Cook and Jordan Cox, while Josh Tongue made a return after last playing in the 2023 Ashes. Notably absent are Mark Wood and Brydon Carse due to injuries. The match will be a rare four-day Test. Additionally, the ECB and BBC have extended their broadcasting partnership until 2028, ensuring free-to-air highlights and live coverage of The Hundred. England’s squad also includes Joe Root, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook among others.
