Rohit Sharma Breaks Into ODI Top 10 Run Scorers, Surpasses Sachin as India’s No. 2 Opener

After smashing England in the first ODI, Rohit Sharma continued his dominance in the second match at Cuttack with a stunning 119 off 90 balls, leading India to a four-wicket victory. His knock, featuring 12 fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 132.22, propelled him into the top 10 highest run-scorers in ODI history, surpassing Rahul Dravid’s 10,889 runs.

With 10,987 runs in 267 matches at an average of 49.26, Rohit is now India’s second-most successful opener in international cricket, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 15,335 runs. He trails only Virender Sehwag, who has 15,758 runs. During the match, England posted 304, driven by Joe Root’s 69 and Ben Duckett’s 65. Ravindra Jadeja led India’s bowling with three wickets.

Chasing the target, Rohit and Shubman Gill (60 off 52) laid a solid foundation with a 136-run opening stand. Contributions from Shreyas Iyer (44) and Axar Patel (41*) sealed India’s win. Rohit also surpassed Chris Gayle’s 331 sixes in ODIs, now second only to Shahid Afridi’s 351. His 36th win as ODI captain ties him with Viv Richards, just behind Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting, and Virat Kohli (39 wins each).
