With the Champions Trophy 2025 coming up, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing internal struggles within the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Disagreements have emerged between the PSL franchises and foreign cricketers’ agents, causing a standstill in player signings ahead of the 2024 PSL draft on January 11. The situation is further complicated by the potential scheduling clash between the PSL, set for April-May, and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The franchises have expressed concerns about foreign player availability, with a particular focus on securing big names like David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Jonny Bairstow, who went unsold in the IPL auction.
Additionally, the PSL is targeting unsold IPL players to bolster its rosters. The PCB is under pressure to resolve these issues to ensure a smooth league, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to be hosted in Pakistan, although political challenges regarding India’s participation remain unresolved.
