Prabhsimran Singh Smashes 91 (48), Draws MS Dhoni Comparison from Hayden

After the explosive knock against Lucknow Super Giants on May 4, Prabhsimran Singh has drawn comparisons to MS Dhoni, thanks to his fearless batting and match-winning performance. In the IPL 2025 clash at Dharamshala, the 24-year-old opener smashed 91 runs off 48 balls, including six fours and seven sixes, propelling Punjab Kings to a massive 236/5. This power-packed innings helped PBKS secure a 37-run victory, pushing them to second on the points table with 15 points from 11 matches.

Prabhsimran, now Punjab’s leading run-scorer with 437 runs in 11 innings, was lauded by Matthew Hayden, who highlighted similarities with a young Dhoni in terms of power, bat speed, and fearlessness. Hayden remarked that Prabhsimran’s ability to control the game and manipulate gaps mirrors the calm yet destructive style Dhoni once displayed.

The match also featured strong bowling efforts from Arshdeep Singh (3 wickets) and Azmatullah Omarzai (2 wickets), helping restrict LSG to 199/7. After the game, Prabhsimran credited coach Ricky Ponting for instilling confidence in the squad and emphasized his simple strategy of reacting to the ball. The knock, aided by a dropped catch on 22, might just be the defining moment of Prabhsimran’s IPL season.
