Old Tweet Criticizing Virat Kohli Resurfaces Amid Rohit Sharma Controversy

For the second time in recent days, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed has sparked controversy over an old tweet criticizing Virat Kohli. In a resurfaced post from 2018, she had accused Kohli of hypocrisy after he told a fan who preferred English and Australian batsmen over Indian players to “leave India”. Mohamed pointed out that Kohli plays a British-invented game, earns crores from endorsing foreign brands, got married in Italy, and admires foreign athletes, yet criticized others for liking foreign cricketers.

This tweet reemerged after Mohamed recently called Indian captain Rohit Sharma “fat” and “unimpressive” in a now-deleted post. She also labeled him a “mediocre player” and “mediocre captain” compared to past Indian captains like Dhoni, Tendulkar, and Ganguly. Defending her remarks, she argued that her comments were about a sportsperson’s fitness, not body-shaming.

Her statements have ignited debates online, with many fans and analysts defending Rohit Sharma and criticizing her views. Meanwhile, the controversy has also revived discussions around Kohli’s past remarks, further fueling the rivalry between supporters of the two Indian cricketing icons.
