Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans were thrilled to see a viral video of Ravichandran Ashwin giving batting tips to MS Dhoni during a practice session. Ashwin, who began his IPL career with CSK in 2009 and played until 2015, has rejoined the franchise after nearly a decade. The off-spinner was signed for ₹9.75 crores in the 2025 mega-auction after being released by Rajasthan Royals.
CSK retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player under the new retention rules, as he hasn’t played international cricket or held a central contract in the last five years. Ashwin, who has played 212 IPL matches with 180 wickets, will reunite with Dhoni as they prepare for another title push.
The five-time champions will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign on March 23 against Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium, followed by a clash against RCB on March 28. Last season, CSK narrowly missed the playoffs, finishing fifth with 14 points. With Ashwin’s return and Dhoni still leading the charge, CSK fans hope for another memorable season. The team’s strategy and experienced players make them strong contenders for the trophy.
