As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revamps its coaching setup ahead of the next ICC World Test Championship cycle, reports suggest Misbah-ul-Haq is set to be appointed as the red-ball head coach. While an official confirmation is pending, former cricketer Basit Ali congratulated Misbah via social media, hinting at the imminent announcement. This follows the PCB’s appointment of Mike Hesson as the white-ball coach, signaling a strategic overhaul.
Misbah, a veteran of Pakistan cricket, was instrumental in the team’s Test success during his playing career, known for his consistency both at home and abroad. He has been associated with the PCB in various roles, including as a mentor, but has reportedly been relieved along with five others recently.
Pakistan’s Test team has struggled significantly in recent years, failing to make an impact in the last two WTC cycles and suffering defeats against South Africa (0-2) and the West Indies. The potential appointment of Misbah is seen as a positive step to stabilize the side. With the new WTC edition approaching, Pakistan is aiming for a reset, and bringing in an experienced figure like Misbah could provide much-needed direction and structure to their red-ball strategy.
