MI Cape Town Clinches Maiden SA20 Title with 76-Run Victory as Kavya Maran and Akash Ambani Hug

MI Cape Town (MICT) secured their first-ever SA20 championship with a commanding 76-run win over Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in the 2025 final at Wanderers Stadium. The game saw a heartfelt moment between SEC owner Kavya Maran and MICT owner Akash Ambani, as they shared a hug, symbolizing sportsmanship despite their teams’ rivalry.

Batting first, MICT posted 181/8 in 20 overs, led by Ryan Rickelton’s explosive start and Dewald Brevis’ quickfire knock. Despite losing wickets in the middle overs, late contributions from Delano Potgieter and Kagiso Rabada ensured a strong total. SEC struggled in response, getting bowled out for just 105 in 18.4 overs. Rashid Khan and George Linde led the bowling attack, while Rabada starred with four wickets.

This dominant win marked a historic milestone for MI Cape Town, with Rashid Khan celebrating alongside team owner Akash Ambani. The final also highlighted Trent Boult’s incredible achievement of winning four titles with different MI franchises. As SA20 2025 concluded, MICT’s emphatic victory and the display of camaraderie between team owners stood out as key moments of the tournament.
