MCA to Honour Rohit Sharma with Stand at Wankhede

After being the first Indian captain to win both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma is set to receive a grand tribute from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). As per reports, the MCA plans to name one of the stands at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after the legendary opener. This move comes following multiple proposals and discussions during the association’s apex council meetings. Rohit’s name now features among other iconic personalities like the late Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sharad Pawar, and cricketing greats Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Merchant.

Currently, the East Stand at Wankhede is named after Sunil Gavaskar, the West after Vijay Merchant, and the North Stand jointly honours Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar. The media gallery is named after Bal Thackeray. The only unnamed Grand Stand above the president’s box is likely to be dedicated to Rohit Sharma.

Rohit’s consistent excellence and leadership have made him one of India’s finest cricketers. Apart from this honour, Wankhede has already paid homage to cricketing legends, including installing a life-sized statue of Sachin Tendulkar. This new move would further cement Rohit’s legacy at the stadium where many iconic moments of Indian cricket have unfolded.
