Jay Shah Takes Center Stage in MCC’s Global Cricket Advisory Board

For the growth and governance of cricket, ICC Chair Jay Shah has joined the newly formed MCC Global Advisory Board, which replaces the MCC World Cricket Committee active since 2006. The board, chaired by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, includes 13 influential members like Sourav Ganguly, Heather Knight, Graeme Smith, and Andrew Strauss. Its purpose is to address cricket’s challenges and guide its global development.

The previous World Cricket Committee played a crucial role in recommending pivotal changes such as the Decision Review System (DRS), day-night Test matches, and the World Test Championship. However, the new advisory board aims to have a more structured and influential role, shaping the annual agenda for cricket’s growth through initiatives like the World Cricket Connects forum.

The first forum held in 2024 brought together over 120 leading voices at Lord’s, inspiring this advisory board. The inaugural meeting is scheduled for June 7-8, 2025, before the ICC World Test Championship final. Shah, the youngest ICC Chair and former BCCI secretary brings valuable experience to this initiative. MCC Chair Mark Nicholas expressed excitement about collaborating with this diverse group to drive impactful outcomes for the sport.
