Jasprit Bumrah Out of Champions Trophy 2025! BCCI Surprise Replacements Raise Eyebrows

For the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India has faced a major setback with Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out due to a lower back injury. The BCCI confirmed that fast bowler Harshit Rana will replace him in the final 15-man squad. Bumrah, who sustained the injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was advised five weeks of rest but could not recover in time. Harshit Rana, 23, recently made his ODI debut against England, picking up four wickets in two matches.

Another surprising change in India’s squad is the exclusion of young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Despite being India’s top run-scorer across all formats in 2024, Jaiswal has played only one ODI, leading to his omission. In his place, the selectors have included 33-year-old mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who impressed during the T20I series against England by taking 14 wickets in five matches and winning the “Player of the Series” award.

India’s non-travelling substitutes include Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Shivam Dube, who will be on standby. The Champions Trophy will take place from February 19 to March 9, with India’s matches scheduled in the UAE.
