The captain of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, is expected to be a part of the IPL 2025 Mega auction, as the team is not looking forward to him as the first retention. This has been revealed according to some reports by RevSportz, that Gujarat Titans will be keeping Afghanistan’s all-rounder, Rashid Khan as their first retention.
In case Rashid Khan is the first retention of the team, it is likely that Shubman Gill might enter the mega auction. This will also be a massive shock for the Gujarat Titans, as Gill has been dominant with the bat, being the team’s top run scorer ever since they played the first season in the IPL 2022 season.
During the IPL 2022 season, Gill scored 483 runs for the team in 16 innings, being the top run scorer, where the team even won their maiden IPL trophy. In the next IPL season, he reached close to Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in an IPL season, by scoring 890 runs, as Gujarat Titans finished 2nd in the tournament.
In the IPL 2024 season, Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians, which led to Shubman Gill being announced as the captain for Gujarat Titans. Unfortunately, the team was unable to perform well in the season, as they finished among the bottom teams in the table. Shubman Gill was still able to give his best, scoring 426 runs in 12 games. With Gill coming up for the IPL Mega Auction, he might get the opportunity to captain a team, as several are looking forward to new captains.
