Five-time IPL Champions and one of the most consistent sides in the IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced a significant change in their coaching staff for IPL 2025. The franchise has appointed Carl Hopkinson, the former England fielding coach, to replace James Pamment as the fielding coach. Hopkinson brings a wealth of experience, having been part of England’s white-ball team during their successful campaigns, including the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
MI’s coaching setup also sees the return of Mahela Jayawardene as head coach, following a disappointing 10th-place finish in IPL 2024. Jayawardene, who led MI to three IPL titles in his first stint, will now attempt to guide the team back to winning ways. Along with Hopkinson, MI has retained key figures like Kieron Pollard (batting coach) and Lasith Malinga (bowling coach), maintaining a balance of experience and fresh leadership.
The 2025 season will see Hardik Pandya leading a squad still packed with Indian cricket stars, including Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav. MI has also strengthened their overseas lineup, bringing in Will Jacks and Trent Boult while adding promising Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar, looking to bounce back strongly after their recent struggles.
