In the ongoing 4th Test match between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia has made a squad change. All-rounder Beau Webster has been released from the squad to join the Melbourne Stars for their upcoming Big Bash League match against Sydney Thunder on December 28th.
Webster was initially added as a cover for Mitchell Marsh, who has been struggling with fitness issues throughout the series. Marsh, who has been playing only as a batter due to back discomfort since the first Test in Perth, continued to face difficulties in the ongoing match, scoring just 4 runs off 13 balls before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.
Given his lack of impact with both bat and ball, it’s likely that Marsh could be benched for the final Test of the series. Meanwhile, Webster is expected to rejoin the Australian squad in Melbourne after his Big Bash appearance and could feature in the upcoming New Year’s Test in Sydney. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is currently tied 1-1, and both teams are vying for a decisive win in this highly competitive series.
