For the Boxing Day Test match between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Cricket Australia confirmed that all tickets for Day 1 have sold out. This highly anticipated event, part of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is expected to break attendance records. The MCG, which can hold up to 90,000 spectators, will host its largest-ever crowd for a non-Ashes Boxing Day Test. This marks the first time that a non-Ashes Test at the venue has completely sold out on opening day.
The Boxing Day Test, a yearly tradition since 1950, will see both teams competing with the series tied at 1-1 after India’s win in the Perth Test and Australia’s comeback in Adelaide. Cricket Australia has also announced that additional tickets may be made available closer to the date due to high demand, with a final release expected on December 24 for non-members.
This is part of a series that has already set record-breaking attendance figures, including 135,000 fans at the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, which shattered previous records for a five-day Test. The Melbourne Test is shaping up to be another major milestone in what has already been a record-breaking tour for both teams.
