A tri-series that could see India and Pakistan play against each other, outside of Asia Cup and ICC tournaments, for the first time in a decade is now under serious consideration. This proposal was made during an ICC board meeting, potentially bringing the two nations together for more regular and competitive matches.
Latif mentioned that the matches between India and Pakistan will take place at a neutral venue due to the recent ICC resolution. This resolution prevents teams from traveling to the host country if it is one of those nations, aiming to ensure safer and more neutral grounds for competition.
Due to the ban on matches between India and Pakistan in their respective countries, both nations will lose out financially. To address this, a proposal was made to host a multi-nation tournament, with most of the revenue shared between India and Pakistan, likely as a tri-series involving one top-ranked team.
The ICC has not yet confirmed the proposal, but Rashid Latif has strongly advocated for it. The ICC is eager to see more cricket between India and Pakistan as it generates a substantial portion of revenue for the board. They hope a tri-series with one top-ranked team could help boost this revenue.
