After being the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL 2025 campaign has come to an early end due to a back injury. The 31-year-old pacer, who was initially expected to return by early April, has been ruled out after the BCCI medical team deemed his recovery incomplete.
Bumrah sustained the injury during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in January and subsequently missed India’s triumphant Champions Trophy campaign. While he has resumed bowling at the Centre of Excellence, he has yet to regain full intensity. Medical experts are being cautious to prevent the risk of a stress fracture, which could lead to a more prolonged absence.
A report from The Times of India suggests that no definitive timeline has been set for his return, but it is unlikely that he will play in IPL 2025. Bumrah himself is taking a careful approach to his recovery, ensuring that he does not rush back too soon. His absence is a significant blow to Mumbai Indians, who relied heavily on his match-winning abilities in previous seasons. The franchise will now have to find an alternative strategy to compensate for the loss of their ace fast bowler.
