Hassan Ali Clarifies Calling Babar as King Remark Amid PSL 10 Backlash

As the Pakistan Super League (PSL 10) intensifies, Karachi Kings’ vice-captain Hassan Ali addressed the controversy around his “King will do it” remark about Babar Azam. Speaking after his team’s loss to Lahore Qalandars at the National Stadium Karachi, Hassan clarified that the statement wasn’t meant to insult anyone and apologised if it was taken the wrong way. He emphasised his respect for Babar, now captain of Peshawar Zalmi, calling him “our product” and Pakistan’s best batter.

The controversy stemmed from Hassan’s earlier comment, “We made Babar the King, and we will bring him down”, which sparked debate on social media. He reiterated his support for Babar, saying he will continue to back him through ups and downs.

Hassan also spoke on the damaging impact of personal attacks from fans, citing examples like Khushdil Shah in New Zealand. He welcomed constructive criticism but condemned abusive behaviour from spectators.

At 29, Hassan Ali remains determined to return to the national squad, stating that consistent performances will open the door. On the Kings’ defeat, he admitted poor shot selection and lack of partnerships cost them the match and promised a team review to fix these issues. The Kings are hopeful for a strong comeback in the upcoming PSL 10 fixtures.
