In the ongoing WPL 2025, Danni Wyatt-Hodge has found her rhythm with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). She scored her maiden fifty against her former team, UP Warriorz, where she was benched for the entire previous season. Wyatt-Hodge, who was traded to RCB, revealed that she had been eager to join the franchise, even pushing her former Southern Brave teammate Smriti Mandhana to bring her in.
The English opener expressed her admiration for RCB, citing legends like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and Virat Kohli as inspirations. However, her decade-old viral tweet from 2014, where she jokingly proposed to Kohli after his unbeaten 72 off 44 in the T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa, resurfaced. Wyatt-Hodge clarified that it was just a lighthearted remark that got blown out of proportion, and even Kohli later advised her to be cautious with social media posts. She said:
That was a joke, obviously. It blew out of proportion. I obviously didn’t mean it. I was just like in awe of Virat’s innings at the time. It was a very special knock. I checked my phone 50 minutes later and I’m all over the news in India saying that I wanted to marry Virat. It was years ago now, things like that happen. I used to love Twitter and loved a bit of banter.
With Sophie Devine unavailable, Wyatt-Hodge’s addition has strengthened RCB’s batting lineup. However, despite a strong start, RCB has lost both of their home games in a row and will be looking to regain momentum before the Bengaluru leg ends. Her presence provides experience and stability, making her a key player for the defending champions.
