After the start of IPL 2025’s resumption from May 17, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to welcome key overseas players back into their squad. The franchise, out of playoff contention with just three wins in 12 games, aims to end the season on a positive note. CSK CEO confirmed that all foreign players except Jamie Overton will rejoin the team. Dewald Brevis, who impressed during his limited appearances, will likely get more opportunities. Alongside him, Sam Curran and Matheesha Pathirana are also expected to bolster the squad.
There were initial doubts over New Zealand stars Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway, but both are set to return. Young Indian players Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel will also remain in focus, having shown promise recently. CSK will face the Rajasthan Royals on May 20 in their first game after the break.
On May 9, the IPL 2025 was suspended due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, prompting most overseas players to return home. While many are now back, some might miss the playoffs because of international commitments. Meanwhile, other franchises like Mumbai Indians are still uncertain about the availability of key players such as Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton, and Bosch for the final phase.
