During the 16th over of the Perth Scorchers innings, Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft both rushed toward a high ball by Cooper Connolly. They failed to notice each other and collided head-on, leaving both cricketers on the ground. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical care following the accident.
Daniel Sams shared an update on Instagram about his recovery after the collision in the Big Bash League 2024-25. He thanked his fans for their support and expressed gratitude to the medical teams from Sydney Thunder, Perth Scorchers, and Cricket Australia for their care during his recovery. He said:
Thanks for all the well wishes over the last couple of days. Has given me a lot of gratitude for the support I have around me. A massive thank you to the Sydney Thunder staff, Perth Scorchers staff, and CA medical staff for looking after Cameron and me. I’m on the mend and can’t wait to be back. Go well tonight, lads.
Cameron Bancroft is unavailable for the Big Bash League 2024-25 due to a broken nose and shoulder fracture. Daniel Sams will miss at least two weeks, which led to Daniel Christian coming out of retirement to assist Sydney Thunder in the tournament during their time of need.
