When the 2025 IPL season began, the rivalry between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reignited on social media. CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube recently mocked RCB fans by pointing to the five stars on his jersey, signifying CSK’s five IPL titles won under MS Dhoni. Adding fuel to the fire, former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Ben Cutting reminded RCB fans of their heartbreaking loss in the 2016 IPL final.
Cutting, who was named Player of the Match in that final, shared a fan-made Instagram reel revisiting his match-winning performance. In the final at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 26, 2016, he smashed an unbeaten 39 off just 15 balls, helping SRH post 208/7. With the ball, he dismissed key RCB batters Chris Gayle (76) and KL Rahul (11), derailing their chase. SRH went on to win the title by 8 runs, crushing RCB’s hopes of their first IPL trophy.
Cutting humorously captioned the video, “Keep getting tagged in these edits, one of the great career highlights”, underlining the impact of his all-around show. The post triggered nostalgia among fans and reemphasized RCB’s unfulfilled IPL dream, as they remain titleless even in 2025.
