For the Indian cricket team, a major shake-up is underway as the BCCI has decided to revamp the national coaching setup following a dismal Test season. Reports suggest that assistant coach Abhishek Nayar is among the top names likely to be sacked after India’s 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) earlier this year. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India managed just one win out of eight Test matches, including a rare whitewash at home, sparking concern among the board.
According to The Hindustan Times, Nayar had a fallout with a key member of the support staff who criticised his inability to deliver results. This criticism reportedly contributed to his likely removal. In response, Sitanshu Kotak has already been added to the coaching staff as a batting coach. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia declined to confirm any official decision, stating that final details would be shared soon.
Additionally, fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai are also set to exit after completing their three-year tenures. The BCCI is reportedly eyeing a return for Adrian Le Roux, India’s first-ever strength and conditioning coach, to replace Desai and reinforce the support team ahead of upcoming challenges.
