BCCI Honours Sunil Gavaskar with Legendary 10000 Runs Board Room at Mumbai HQ

The main event for the Indian cricket community is the grand honour bestowed upon legend Sunil Gavaskar by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). To celebrate Gavaskar’s historic achievement as the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, the BCCI named a special board room after him at its Mumbai headquarters, called the “10000 Gavaskar” board room. This tribute not only commemorates his outstanding cricketing record but also highlights the values, discipline, and class he brought to the sport. Gavaskar, who played for India from 1971 to 1987, was known for his calm batting style and strong defence against world-class fast bowlers.

At the inauguration, Gavaskar was joined by BCCI President Roger Binny, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, and Secretary Devajit Saikia as Gavaskar thanked the board and fans for their continuous support throughout his career.

In addition to the honour, Gavaskar urged the BCCI to resume the IPL without cheerleaders, DJS, or fireworks following the recent tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, emphasising respect for the victims. The IPL is expected to resume on May 17 with a toned-down atmosphere in line with his request. This gesture reflects Gavaskar’s commitment not only to cricketing excellence but also to social responsibility within the sport.
