BBL 2024-25: Mitchell Marsh Readies for BBL Return After Test Squad Dropped

After being dropped from the Australian squad for the final Test against India, Mitchell Marsh is set to make his Big Bash League (BBL) return, nearly three years since his last appearance. Marsh has been added to the Perth Scorchers squad for their upcoming match against Melbourne Renegades at Optus Stadium on Tuesday. Quick bowler Jhye Richardson, who was also part of the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar series, is available for a BBL return as well.

However, Travis Head has confirmed that he will not feature for the Adelaide Strikers before the Sri Lanka tour. Head, recovering from a demanding schedule, expressed that he would take the next 10 to 12 days off before heading to Sri Lanka.

Marsh, who returned to Perth after Australia’s series-clinching victory, had to step aside from the Test squad for Beau Webster, who made an impressive debut. Marsh’s last BBL match was in January 2022. If he is not selected for the Sri Lanka tour, he could play for the Scorchers throughout the rest of the BBL season. Other Test players, including Steven Smith and Usman Khawaja, could also play for their BBL teams, with many of them likely heading to Sri Lanka soon.
