The fifth match of the BBL 2024-25 saw a one-sided encounter completely dominated by the Melbourne Renegades as they defeated the Hobart Hurricanes by six wickets with a staggering 66 balls to spare at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong. After winning the toss and opting to field, the Renegades’ bowlers wreaked havoc on the Hurricanes’ batting lineup, bundling them out for a paltry 74 runs in just 12.4 overs.
Tom Rogers was the star with the ball, claiming 3/25 in his three overs, while Fergus O’Neill (3/16) and Will Sutherland (3/14) provided excellent support. Nathan Ellis was the lone bright spot for the Hurricanes, scoring 35 off 29 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered, with six players dismissed for single-digit scores.
Chasing a modest target of 75, the Renegades cruised to victory in just nine overs. Tim Seifert led the charge with an unbeaten 37 off 19 balls, striking four boundaries and two sixes at a blistering strike rate of 194.73. Nathan Ellis and Riley Meredith managed two wickets each for the Hurricanes, but the target was too small to pose a challenge. Tom Rogers was named Player of the Match for his impactful performance, as the Renegades claimed their first win of the season.
