Australian Spinner Matt Kuhnemann Under Scrutiny for Suspect Bowling Action

Australia’s star spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been reported for a suspect bowling action by the ICC following Australia’s 2-0 Test series win over Sri Lanka. Kuhnemann played a key role in the victory, finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets at an impressive average of 17.18. This is the first time his action has been questioned since his professional debut in 2017.

Cricket Australia (CA) issued a statement confirming cooperation with the ICC and independent experts to assess Kuhnemann’s action. The Australian team was informed about the match officials’ referral after the second Test in Galle. CA assured that Kuhnemann will receive full support during the process but declined to make further comments until the matter is resolved.

Kuhnemann has played 124 professional matches, including five Tests, four ODIs, and 55 Big Bash League games since 2018. In international cricket, he has taken 25 wickets in Tests at an average of 22.20 and six wickets in ODIs at 31.83. In domestic cricket, he boasts 90 first-class and 55 List-A wickets.

While his action is under review, Kuhnemann can continue playing domestic cricket. However, if he fails the assessment, he will be banned from bowling until he corrects his action and clears further testing.
