The Women’s Ashes has been going well and exciting as Australia Women took a 2-0 lead with a 21-run victory over England Women in the second ODI at Melbourne on January 14, 2025. Australia posted 180 all out in 44.3 overs, with Ellyse Perry contributing a steady 60 from 74 balls. However, England’s bowlers, led by Sophie Ecclestone (4/35) and Alice Capsey (3/22), made significant inroads, reducing Australia to 180 from a promising position of 149/5.
In response, England Women fell short, managing only 159 runs in 48.1 overs. Amy Jones top-scored with 47*, while Nat Sciver-Brunt added 35. The chase faltered early with England at 8/2, and despite a strong middle-order partnership, they were unable to keep up with the required rate. Australia’s Alana King was the standout performer with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 25 runs, including key dismissals of Sciver-Brunt, Wyatt-Hodge, Dean, and Ecclestone.
