For the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, Gujarat Giants have appointed Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner as their new captain. Gardner, who has been a key player for the Giants since the league’s inception, takes over from her teammate Beth Mooney. Over the past two seasons, Gardner has accumulated 324 runs and taken 17 wickets, but despite her performances, Gujarat Giants have struggled, finishing at the bottom of the table in both editions. Last season, they only managed two wins in eight matches.
Gardner expressed her excitement about leading the team, saying it was an honour and highlighting the strong mix of experienced and young players in the squad. She is determined to lead a resurgence and aims to make the fans proud in the upcoming season. The Gujarat Giants will begin their WPL 2025 campaign on February 14, where they will face the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), in Vadodara.
This leadership change is a significant move for the franchise as they seek a fresh start and to improve on their previous performances in the tournament.
