For the upcoming IPL 2025 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), former cricketer Ambati Rayudu has taken a dig at RCB’s long-standing trophy drought. Speaking with Subramaniam Badrinath on YouTube, Rayudu mocked RCB’s history of failures, saying their struggles have been a source of entertainment for fans over the years. However, he admitted that he would like to see RCB win a title someday, just not this year, as he wants CSK to lift the trophy.
RCB has been part of the IPL since its inception in 2008 but has never won the title despite reaching three finals (2009, 2011, 2016). Even with Virat Kohli as captain for several years, they couldn’t break the jinx, losing the 2016 final to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Despite this, RCB had a strong start to IPL 2025, defeating the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, by seven wickets.
Rayudu, a six-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians (2013, 2015, 2017) and CSK (2018, 2021, 2023), retired after winning the 2023 title. Since then, he has transitioned into commentary. As RCB prepares to face CSK, they aim to break their 16-year winless streak at Chepauk, dating back to 2008.
