Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their captain and Venkatesh Iyer as the vice-captain. Rahane, who previously led the Rajasthan Royals, was brought back to KKR in the mega auction, while Iyer was a major signing, purchased for ₹23.75 crore. KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed confidence in their leadership, highlighting Rahane’s experience and Iyer’s strong connection with the franchise.
Rahane, known for leading India to a historic Test series win in Australia, called it an honor to captain KKR and expressed optimism about their well-balanced squad. The team is set to defend their IPL title and will begin their campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on March 22.
KKR has also announced that they will wear a special IPL Golden Badge this season, though details remain undisclosed. The franchise recently conducted a trophy tour in Siliguri to celebrate their past three IPL victories.
With IPL 2025 approaching, teams are making key strategic moves. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed a former India player as their new coach, and reports suggest BCCI is considering a special training plan for Test players amid the IPL. The upcoming season promises high-stakes action and intense competition.
