Former Pakistan bowler Mohammad Amir has sparked controversy with his bold remarks about Virat Kohli, calling him the greatest player of this generation. Amir mocked the comparisons made between Kohli and other modern cricket icons like Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Australia’s Steve Smith, and England’s Joe Root.
He emphasized that Kohli’s consistency and ability to perform in crucial moments set him apart from his peers, labeling him as the best across all formats of the game. Amir also praised Kohli’s work ethic, particularly noting his remarkable comeback after a tough 2014 series in England. He said:
Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation. I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root. We cannot compare Virat Kohli to anyone because he has won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the greatest batsman of this generation.
Furthermore, Amir admitted that Kohli’s dismissal was key to Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy victory. He also shared his memorable experience of dismissing cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar during the 2009 Champions Trophy.
